These pictures actually looked decent on my phone screen, but on my laptop screen they look... hazy?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Then there’s this one that looks darker than the night.

Kinja'd!!!

*Angrily grumbles because I don’t have an editing software to attempt to fix them either*

There are some good free ones out there. I’ve used Paint.net before. It does everything that MS Paint should but doesn’t, and isn’t nearly as complicated as Photoshop.

+1 for Paint.net, It’s not quite as robust as PS, but for an plebe like me it works just fine.

If only they made a lightroom clone too...

Make sure the lens on your phone’s camera is clean. Also there are tons of photo editing apps for phones. I use Snapseed.

I actually do have Snapseed on my phone (Thank you random Buzzfeed list of “Apps you need”) Something about my laptop screen make any edits I do look terribad.

Is there a cheap point and shoot that has slightly better than cell phone quality? My nexus 5 rear camera has completely stopped working

Play around with Snapseed more, you can get good results. Just a quick messing with your last photo, which is the worst lighting of the bunch:

Now this doesn’t exactly look very natural, but at least it doesn’t look all shadowy.

Wipe the snow off your car before taking pictures of it :P

Looking at those pics on my phone they all look fine. The “dark” one is definitely underexposed but far from salvageable. As for photo editing paint.net or the GIMP would be my free softwares of choice. Neither of them have the dearth of features or quality of algorithms that Lightroom or Photoshop has got, but they’ll do for touching up your cell phone photos. There is also a free version of Photoshop for Android. And Googles Snapseed editor which I rather like.

Almost any point and shoot camera will have better quality than a cell phone. Look for something used around $50. That should work well. Canon or Nikon or Fuji or Sony. Doesn't really matter what model.
